Take good care of your potholders to prolong their life.

It may seem obvious, but it’s obviously not for everyone: cleaning your potholders properly can make a big difference to their lifespan! That’s why Wodandgo has prepared a very special article for you!

Why clean potholders?

First of all, potholders are put through their paces during training and gym sessions. The materials are subjected to a great deal of pressure during movement, and are attacked by perspiration, chalk and, let’s face it, our hands wandering all over the place during wods deposit a very black layer on the microfiber. All this can weaken your pair over time! So it’s important to look after them and clean them regularly.

Secondly, beyond the fact that it damages the materials, Xfit buddies will be happy not to smell that unpleasant odor of unwashed potholders! By the way, here’s a little tip: hang your potholders on the outside of your bag between washes. All your gear will smell so much better.

Thirdly, dirty potholders have an impact on your performance… A feeling that the potholders grip less than before. The microfiber has turned black and is sometimes filled with magnesia. Perspiration is no longer absorbed by the microfiber and your hands slip inside the potholder, giving the impression that the potholders are losing their grip on the bar…

How do you wash your potholders properly?

Potholders hate the washing machine! Yes, it’s much more convenient to throw them in the drum and leave the washing machine to it, but this destroys your pair, even with a cold wash. The materials used to create potholders aren’t made to be soaked entirely in water for 35 minutes and wrung out at 1400 rpm, for 15 minutes. We’re already asking quite a lot of them during gym sessions, so we can offer them the proper cleaning… To clean your potholders properly, nothing could be simpler: take a brush (a toothbrush works just fine), Marseille soap or black soap (avoid detergent, as some detergents are not compatible with microfiber and other materials), and a spot of water (obviously). The steps are simple:

  • Wet your potholders
  • Apply soap on the microfiber side
  • Brush the microfiber
  • Rinse off the soap
  • Let your potholders air-dry

Just as washing machines should be banned, so should tumble dryers! And so is using a hair dryer to dry them faster. Any source of heat to dry them faster will damage your potholders.

In conclusion,

It’s important to look after your potholders in the right way so that they last over time. Don’t neglect to clean your potholders, and follow WODANDGO ‘s advice and recommendations on care and use, so you get the right equipment for the job.
