WODANDGO Cross-Training, Weightlifting, and Powerlifting Knee Sleeves: When and How to Use Them? 🏋🏽
Knee sleeves are an essential accessory for regular cross-training, weightlifting, and powerlifting practitioners. Indeed, with time and progression in your discipline, the need for additional knee support becomes apparent. But when should you wear them? Why are they useful? And most importantly, how to use them correctly to optimize your performance while protecting your knees? It is important to use knee sleeves intelligently so as not to weaken the muscle mass around the joint. Here is an article about everything you need to know about Wodandgo knee sleeves.
Why use knee sleeves?
Knee sleeves are obviously not a fashion accessory. They offer several advantages:
- Support and compression: They provide good support for the joint, the Neoprene material keeps the joint warm, reducing the risk of injury.
- Protection against impact: Ideal for movements where knees touch the ground, such as lunges or burpees. An airbag effect is guaranteed for these movements.
- Improved blood circulation: Compression helps reduce muscle fatigue and promotes recovery.
- Stability and performance: In weightlifting or heavy squats, they improve proprioception and provide additional support. They are useful for long repetitions, offering a bounce on each squat.
When to wear knee sleeves?
- During intense cross-training WODs or functional training with a lot of knee flexion (thrusters, squats, box jumps, etc.). For this type of effort, you should opt for short 5mm knee sleeves and/or 7mm. Do you want to use versatile knee sleeves? Knee sleeves for lifting heavy loads that you can keep on during WODs? Opt for short 7mm knee sleeves which will be more versatile, providing good support and freedom of movement.
- For heavy loads in weightlifting or powerlifting (back squat, clean & jerk, snatch). Are you an athlete who performs in weightlifting or powerlifting with extreme loads? We recommend knee sleeves adapted to your practice, such as: power knee sleeves - GLADIATOR. These knee sleeves are not suitable for WODs due to their strong compression.
- If you feel discomfort or pain in your knees, to prevent worsening. If knee discomfort persists, it is obviously essential to consult a professional! Knee sleeves are not a long-term solution.
- As a preventive measure if you want to protect your joints in the long term. We still advise you not to wear them during WODs where there are no long series, so as not to weaken your muscle.
💡 Warning: Knee sleeves do not replace a good warm-up or appropriate muscle strengthening!
How to use them correctly?
- Choose the right size: Too tight, they cut off circulation. Too loose, they are useless. (Consult the Wodandgo size guides available on each knee sleeve product page)
- Position them correctly: Just above and below the kneecap, without folds.
- Do not wear them all the time: They should be used for intense efforts, and not as a permanent crutch.
Wodandgo knee sleeves combine comfort, support, and performance. Whether you're in the middle of a WOD or under a loaded barbell, they will be your best allies in protecting your knees and pushing your limits.
